How does it work?
Frequent flier miles and hotel points are great, but with so many rewards programs out there with different valuations, how do you know if you are getting a good deal, or are better off paying for it in cash?
PointsValues uses an advanced algorithm to detect and tag miles or points redemptions directly on the webpage of a flight or hotel room search. Based on our recommended points valuations, or your own custom valuations, the tag will show you exactly what those miles or points are worth, in dollars.
Simply install the extension, and search for redemptions like you usually do! The extension will automatically tag points and miles redemption options showing its equivalent value in dollars.
Searching for MileagePlus awards on United's website shows that a flight will cost 25K miles. But how much is that worth?
After installing the browser extension, tags will appear directly on the search pages, showing you the equivalent valuation of number of miles needed. In this case, our default valuation of 1.5 cents per MileagePlus mile was used to convert 25K miles to $375 USD.
The extension comes loaded with default valuations for each loyalty program based on PointsValues valuations. Want to use your own valuations? Simply click on "Change Valuation" in the button popup window and type in what you think is a fair redemption value. Your valuations will be stored in your browser memory for future sessions.
Is it safe to use?
Yes! The PointsValues browser extension stores only your custom points valuations, and does so locally within your browser without communicating with other servers or websites. You do not need to create an account or provide any personal information. When prompted to install the extension, you will see that the one permission requested is the ability to "read and change your data on a number of websites." This is so that the algorithm can process through the airline and hotel website webpage code to search for points/miles redemption content, and append the valuation tag to the points/miles redemption amount. Once activated, at no point does any information get transmitted to any external website or server through the extension.
PointsValues receives compensation from some of the airlines and hotel chains when a user activates points/miles conversions and books, then completes a paid stay or flight. During activation, your browser will be briefly redirected to our website so that our affiliate program can link the purchase to us. This process does not influence the content displayed on the website in any way, and does not include any personal information, and the points and miles valuations displayed are not affected by these affiliate relationships.
